Sonya Holowell
Sonya’s practice is based around the presentation of exploratory vocal music; from improvisation to pre-composed vocal works spanning centuries, genres and cultural contexts. She utilises a vast range of techniques to highlight the fullest capabilities of the voice, with a particular interest in its capacity to express the inexpressible.
Sonya has performed at many of the leading festivals for classical, new and experimental music and has collaborated with many award-winning composers and performers in the realm of sound-based and inter-disciplinary art.
Sonya has been Young Artist with the Song Company, Emerging Artist for Resonant Bodies Festival, Guest Lecturer and Artist in Residence at the University of New South Wales, and won the Sydney Fringe Festival’s recent Critics Choice Award with collaborator Elia Bosshard. She co-directs and performs in CACHE in POINT with Bosshard and in the duo Holowell with pianist/improviser Jonathan Holowell.
