Iris Garrelfs

Iris Garrelfs is a London based composer and artist interested in modes of listening as a way of connecting to the world, exploring interrelatedness, patterns and interaction through improvised performances, mixed media projects and recordings.

In the 1990s Iris was one of the first artists to fuse extended vocal techniques and laptop in improvised performance. Her work has been compared to artists such as Yoko Ono, Henri Chopin, Joan La Barbara, Meredith Monk and Arvo Part and has featured in exhibitions, festivals and as part of residencies internationally, including Tate Britain, Hack the Barbican, Liverpool Biennial, International Computer Music Conference, GSK Contemporary at the Royal Academy Of Arts, Gaudeamus Live Electronics Festival, (Amsterdam), or Visiones Sonoras (Mexico). Collaborations have included Thomas Koner, Scanner, Kaffe Matthews. She is just finishing her AHRC funded PhD where she also teaches on the BA Sonic Art.

Elsewhere she edits the online journal Reflections on Process and Sound and curates live events such as The Potting Shed (with Jude Cowan Montague) and Sprawl (with Douglas Benford).
